Sleepy was an interesting story. I felt sorry for the character Varka because she was pushed around the whole story. Her father dies and she has to work for these terrible people. They treat her like a slave telling her to fetch things for them. She barely gets any sleep. The ending of the story was terrible. Varka ends up killing a baby she was taking care of who wouldnt stop crying. After I read the ending I did not feel sorry for Varka because the baby was innocent, it is just a baby they all cry. Im not really sure what the last line means. It says " and a moment later is already fast asleep, like the dead". Im taking a guess that Varka finally feels peace from all her problems after killing the baby and is in a deep sleep where no one can bother her. It is just my opinion.

Didn't she kind of do this to herself when she had the kid You can't count on your parents raising your kid for you. True, people proably didn't live as long then but thirteen seems to be a bit too young.
ReplyDeleteI do feel sorry for the little girl because she is forced to live with this mean people and raise their baby while they are in their room sleep. If she was older I don't think she would've made this choice but she was to young and a lot of things were happening to her all at once. I do feel bad for the baby because no one ever deserves to die especially an innocent baby. The last line that states her being able to "fall asleep like the dead" is saying she can now sleep in peace without any interruptions like the dead.
ReplyDeleteI felt sorry for Varka because she doesnt have really any other choices but to work for them, it could of been avoided if she just took a nap.
